What do you do when you're interested in going vegan but feel intimidated by a 7 day or 30 day program? Here's a new idea: why not start your path to veganism with breakfast?
VeganStart is a brand new program helping people take bigger steps towards goals like improving their health, reducing their carbon footprint, and being kind to other animals.
We're encouraging a switch to vegan breakfasts every day - what better way to try out going vegan?
Breakfasts are pretty easy to veganize - most of us have a fairly limited range of breakfast foods, like cereal, toast or porridge. These are really easy to make vegan and typically only require swapping out one or two ingredients. Your cereal is probably already vegan, so just switch to a non-dairy milk! Vegan bread is already really common, and porridge is similar to cereal with swapping the milk. Do you have fruit for breakfast? Looks like you're already having vegan breakfasts!
If you're new to vegan foods, have fun with it! Did you know there are at least 13 different non-dairy milks you can buy? Besides soy, almond and rice milk, there's coconut, cashew, quinoa, 7 grain, hemp and more! Not sure where to start? Get together with friends and family members and do a blind taste test with a bunch of them, see which ones you like! It can be fun to try out new foods. Your new favourite foods are waiting for you!
If you're already vegan, you can use the website to your advantage too. In addition to finding tasty breakfast ideas for yourself, if you're an activist this is a new tool for your toolbox. When you're talking with someone who's not quite ready to commit, you can offer the VeganStart program. This might be the difference between making no changes and taking a step towards veganism. Sometimes something small like this is all it takes!
Having started in December, we're a fresh new program and so there's lots more to come. We're already redoing our website and will soon feature a recipe section where you can browse for breakfast inspirations or send us your tasty creations! We'll soon have leaflets and literature and will also feature contests, giveaways and other fun stuff.
