Last weekend I headed to the Olympia in London to check out the Just V Show for the first time. Described as “the event for everyone living a ‘V’ lifestyle”, they had a wide variety of vegan brands and stalls that I was excited to see and buy from!
In the same building was also The Allergy + Free From Show with products for people living with allergies and intolerances. So this meant that many of their exhibitors were also vegan s...Read Full Post »

Tofu isn’t always for everyone… But it really can be if it’s prepared and cooked correctly. Most of those who have tried, and disliked tofu may have eaten it in a way that they do not like – but the best part of this ingredient is that it’s a blank canvas that can be made into anything you like. Here’s a selection of some great recipes that include tofu…

A recent article in the Guardian stated that a MILLION plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute. It’s now more urgent than ever for us to all be more mindful about our impact on the planet that we live on. So here are some simple ways you can contribute less to the waste that’s already on our Earth.
1) Use glass/steel straws
This has undoubtedly been one of my greatest purchases! Glass and steel straws are fairly cheap, and usually come in...Read Full Post »

1) Plant bee-friendly flowers and herbs
Planting from the seed is a cheap and fun way to make your space beautiful. It does take a while to see some progress, but it’s SO satisfying when you do. I planted my flowers in April...Read Full Post »

If you thought that ‘Cowspiracy’ was a game-changer for helping encourage the vegan movement then you need to see ‘What The Health’!
What director Kip Andersen’s first documentary did for opening people’s eyes to the environmental impact of the meat, dairy and egg industries, his second does with a focus on the health impact.

When I decided to be vegan, I had no problem with changing my diet. But what I did find quite hard was changing my perception and habits regarding visiting animals in zoos, farms and other entertainment parks.
I absolutely love to see animals in person but once I started learning about the cruelty and sadness surrounding zoos etc. it hammered home the message that animals should not be contained. They belong in the wild or wherever their species came from, be it the ...Read Full Post »

Cheese. Everyone loves it. And it seems that everyone I talk to claims that they couldn’t go vegan because they’d miss it – Not burgers or steak or even bacon. They’d miss CHEESE the most.
The availability, quality and choice of vegan cheese has got better over the past year but still people haven’t been wholly convinced to make the full swap.
So, as if they had heard our cries, supermarket giant...Read Full Post »

If you somehow missed the news, café chain Pret A Manger launched an ENTIRELY vegetarian and vegan store in Soho, London last year. Initially only a temporary pop-up event, the store was in fact so successful that the company decided it should stay. Yay!
But what’s more exciting is that a second Veggie Pret was announced recently and opened its doors for the first time yesterday in Shoreditch, London.

Last year my mum and I got engrossed in a TV show called ‘The Retreat’ starring DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles (ask your parent’s if you’ve not heard of him!) It followed him and a small group of people with busy, stressful jobs and lives who signed up for a 28-day detox regime on a Thai island. This meant ditching sugar, caffeine, cigarettes AND only eating a raw vegan diet alongside taking Reiki and yoga classes – Basically a BIG change for...Read Full Post »

I went to my second VegFestUK Brighton at the weekend (and 4th overall with London) and it was, as it usually is, fantastic. (Check out my haul pic on Instagram! - candii_h)
I felt that I couldn’t come away without encouraging people to go to the festival next year but it also got me thinking about how amazing the seaside town is for vegans and offers such a wide range of places to eat and shop.
I live pretty close by and can easily drive d...Read Full Post »

As you most probably know, veganism is not just a diet it is a lifestyle. When purchasing cosmetics or toiletries, you need to make sure that they do not contain any animal derived ingredients and that the products or ingredients have not been tested on animals by the company themselves or a third party.
Hidden animal-based ingredients may include: beeswax, carmine, pearl powder, silk powder, collagen, elastin, allantoin, lanolin, albumen, cholesterol and gelatine.

You may think when picking up your bottle of 'Innocent' juice, you are purchasing a nourishing, pure, drink - which you would assume is vegan. But don't be fooled! These bottles of freshly, squeezed fruit are not VEGAN! It scared me to find out that the company can't guarantee that their juice is suitable for vegans due to the possible shellac content. Nowadays, as vegans we have to check basically any new product, before we buy it - due to sneaky hidden ingredients or contaminants.
